TravelZork has just heard from a reliable source, that players will have 16 MONTHS to renew their Mlife tier status once the transition of My Borgata Rewards to the MGM Mlife Casino Loyalty Program is completed on June 7, 2017. We assume this means that all current tiers will remain in force until October of 2018! Finally, there is some good, transparent news.
(Editor note : Nothing is ever a guarantee, until the program transition is complete and rules/terms memorialized.)

It makes sense that players would receive an extension of their status because the tier qualifications of the MGM Mlife program are very different from My Borgata Rewards. My Borgata Rewards uses a rolling year to year, status qualification period, based upon the date you earn a tier status, so everyone has different dates for status renewal.
In the Mlife program, Tiers expire on October 1 each year. Tier Credits earned from October 1 to September 30 qualify you for your tier beginning each October 1, but if you advance to a higher tier at any time, you get those benefits for at least one full year. So, if you’ve already earned Black Label Status through My Borgata Rewards for the year and that equates to Gold Status through Mlife, then it is only fair that the new Mlife year (as opposed to the rolling My Borgata Rewards year) would start for everyone on Oct 1. This also gives everyone more time (16 months, as opposed to 12 months) to qualify for, or renew Mlife tier status, which would start October 1, 2018.

Lots of Good Reasons for Mlife to be Generous with Tier
There might be another reason why Mlife is being so generous with tier status through the transition—keeping other casinos from luring disgruntled Borgata players away from Mlife. Caesars Total Rewards, the other behemoth casino program that awards system wide comps, just started upgrading players to Diamond Status with a match from an elite slot card from another casino in the Atlantic City region. My Borgata Rewards has been matching status for years, but Caesars has not! If the Borgata antagonizes it’s patrons with too many downgrades, Caesars may be poised to try to lure Atlantic City players away from Mlife!
This special Caesars tier match is only good through January of 2018 but the normal Total Rewards qualification period is based upon the calendar year. The tier score you earn from January 1 – December 31, qualifies you for your tier status from the date earned through the remainder of the year, all of the next year and through January 31 of the following year. (This earning rate is clearly defined, which this player appreciates). Be on the lookout for ways to both match and/or maximize tier benefits in both AC and Las Vegas.
(Editor Note : When we originally published this article we mistakenly mentioned the Caesars Diamond match was valid until January 2019, instead of January 2018. As an aside, this is also consistent with FoundersCard upgrades to Caesars Diamond that are renewed on an annual basis.)
It doesn’t seem like all the recent changes in AC are going to bode well for the player, but competition is good. We might be able to keep our fleece for a little bit longer!
