Paul Sparkes – Floorplay founder:
Floorplay was started to make a cosmopolitan clubbing night accessible for locals and international visitors. The key to the longevity of the event is great music and a genuinely mixed crowd. People regularly travel from other European countries to sample the atmosphere of Floorplay. The Internet has shrunk the world and we have even had people coming from Asia and America to our nights. Despite the Internet making the world smaller, people still wish to go out and meet people and socialise and dance and that’s essential in these days of digital connectedness.
We have been running for 8 years, that’s well over 100 editions and we often bring in big name DJs at our events. Funnily enough, people always say that web connection is quite poor in the club but I think that’s a good thing. I like the fact that people are not glued to their phones and can communicate with each other and get into a great night of music. The mix of nationalities at Floorplay truly adds something unique to our monthly events.
People love Floorplay and they love the city of Amsterdam. It has so much to offer with its wonderful galleries, beautiful canals monuments. A day outside the city is also well worth it, with miles of unspoilt countryside. Amsterdam was also voted number 8 in the poll for the most desirable cities to live in.
