When you go to Amsterdam, you might expect to find tulips everywhere, but you won’t get much more than the wooden type, unless you venture out of the city. Keukenhof is one of the top sites to see if you want to experience the Holland tulips. With more than 7 million tulips, you can be sure you will get your fill. Keukenhof is decorated with so many different small collections of tulips, as well as it is surrounded by giant tulip fields.
When you go to Keukenhof there are some key things to look out for. Every year this is a theme with a special garden and tulip mural. When I went there it was the Van Gogh theme!
If you have enough time and want to see the tulip fields from a different perspective, I highly recommend the boat tour offered at Keukenhof. Walk to the Windmill overlooking the water “canals” and to your left will be the ticket office. The tour will last 45 minutes, but goes by so quickly and costs only 8 euros. You might even see a local boating by to get from one tulip field to another.
And a big factor is just walking around and seeing the gorgeous tulip arrangements that make for amazing photo opportunities.
Lastly, We discovered on our bus ride back from Keukenhof, that you can also explore the tulip fields that surround the area. There are bikes for rent if you have the time, or just take a few steps out of Keukenhof for a walk around the area to explore the fields. Then you can just follow your way back to the bus that will take you back to Schipol Airport.
