W Las Vegas Is Coming
After speculation and somewhat of a confirmation from the SLS and Starwood, it appears as though the transformation of the Lux tower into the W Las Vegas is well underway with construction walls up and certain rooms not available.
The construction wall closes off everything but the smallest of access to the Lux tower elevators (assuming they’re leaving the rooms in operation to not lose revenue). The VIP lounge, Lux entrance and parts of the back of house including a sliver of the lobby-adjacent Monkey Bar are all closed off, most likely to renovate them to be a little bit SLS themed and a lot more of the modern W aesthetic that’s a signature of the hotel. Going to the website listed we land on…
A website chock full of information that lets us know the W is really just a rebranded version of the Lux tower with only a facelift to the front. It’s not a bad thing but I expected a bit more. The Lux tower is a great part of the SLS, but it’s a bit too campy for some so seeing it toned down would have been nice.
Either way the W Hotel at the SLS is coming and will open in Winter of 2016. Here’s hoping it brings a bit more business to what’s already a great property that could use a bump in traffic.
