Another week of casino openings and closings in Las Vegas. Let’s start the week with an opening before we get to the “Mirage Closing” news.
We’re entering what’s typically a slow news period while everyone gets into holiday and vacation mode. That doesn’t mean there’s nothing happening, but there’s less than usual (and “The Pause”). Funk that! We got the goods right here!
Earlier this week, I went through the Momentum Rewards benefits for the Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. They appear to be different than other markets, so I did a deep dive. Another point of interest is the overall situation regarding Vegas Virgin Fees.
Things aren’t the same for me and many people as we continue to try to get back to something resembling the normal from January and February. There’s not too much to update on COVID in Las Vegas this week so I thought sharing some personal effects might be interesting.
It looks like we’ll be starting the Vegas news with a weekly COVID-19 update for a while now. As usual, I recommend checking the Nevada Independent for updates if you’d like to see the data on how the virus is impacting the Silver State.
I thought about writing an intro this week but this trip report is a good enough reminder about what Las Vegas casinos are like right now. Las Vegas continues to reopen and will be for a while.
So, seriously, Las Vegas casinos are really close to opening and an “official” Vegas casino opening announcement. Friday evening, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak announced he will hold a press conference for Tuesday, May 26 with details about Phase 2 of reopening Nevada.
The local Las Vegas news is usually a waste of time for me. They typically have 3-5 minutes of local news before going to national news, weather and human interest stories. I don’t watch the local news often because 95% isn’t interesting to me. Don’t get me wrong – I love that I live in a sleepy town like Las Vegas. (Unbelievably, we still have a number of weekly items to share, including details today about the casino players club updates.)
This was a somewhat surprisingly busy week for Vegas News. Looking at the calendar, we knew there was a lot happening. This just isn’t a week when Las Vegas traditionally busy.
This is been a whirlwind Vegas News week. There was at least one different casino operator reporting quarterly earnings every day + MGM Getting Dynamic, Ruffin Might Buy Caesars and A Lot More…..
