ZorkFest Unlocked: How to Find Your Advantage and Make Every Session Count

Advantage travel and gambling conferences like ZorkFest can be both exciting and intimidating. That’s how I felt during the first ZorkFest in 2017.

Having a plan before the conference is helpful. It’s nearly impossible to see every seminar at ZorkFest, so knowing which are most important to you goes a long way in getting the most out of the event.

I try to do this for everything in life, and it’s usually helpful. Nothing goes as planned, but having everything laid out allows me to get back on track if there’s a disturbance.

Coincidentally, this has been my week. Every time I start on a project, there’s a disturbance that takes me away from what I was doing. However, I can get back on track quickly since I have a plan.

My first ZorkFest Was Overwhelming

I’ve been working with Mr. TravelZork since the website began, and was stoked to hear about his vision for ZorkFest

The presenters back then were deeply immersed in travel and casino rewards, and I really didn’t know where to start. There are more speakers today, and they have so much more to offer, and it’s even more difficult to choose which panels to attend.

I’m fairly well-versed in casino rewards and wanted to see if I was missing out on any tricks. Unsurprisingly, I learned a few things about the track I was familiar with.

I was more curious about the non-casino information. I had a large disconnect from applying what I knew about casino rewards to my day-to-day life.

My first ZorkFest was overwhelming. Everyone was OBSESSED with rewards.

Lessons Learned From ZorkFest

I’m not, so I listened and took lots of notes. Frankly, about 70% of what I learned wasn’t directly helpful. It did, however, educate me on rewards and credit hacks that were available outside of casinos.

I’ll never be as interested in rewards the way the presenters were then and are today. That’s just not my way of life.

However, I was able to pull ideas from all my notes and apply them to my life without changing too much. I learned which rewards were the best values and made changes where it was easy and made sense.

Using What I Learned At ZorkFest

Taking in all the information and finding what works for me was crucial. The lessons I’ve learned at ZorkFest over the years are still part of my casino and everyday life.

I use this example often because I write my weekly TravelZork articles on Thursday, when I place my weekly grocery order. A few of the simple things I learned at ZorkFest are tied to the day when I order groceries.

I switch credit cards to get cash back for groceries and gas. I place grocery orders on Thursday for Friday pickup, which earns me 4x gas rewards.

While I’m getting cash back for both purchases, I’m also saving $1 per gallon on gas for a couple of fill-ups each month. This is a simple way to get the most from my everyday spending without going out of my way to get a deal.

Have A ZorkFest Action Plan

Everyone at ZorkFest should have a plan of attack for what they want to learn during the conference. Your action plan could be getting the most from playing video poker or online gambling. Maybe it’s finding the best way to get discounts or free flights and hotels.

There’s something for everyone at ZorkFest, and I’m looking forward to the conference once again as life changes have me looking for new travel tips.

Marc grew up on the mean streets of the South Bronx. He's the rare combination of Yankees and Jets fan which explains his often contrarian point of view. He learned about gambling at a young age working down the street from a bookie who took action on anything from the mainstream sports to the last three digits of the purse for certain horse races. Yeah, that's a thing. Today Marc is a freelance writer and social media consultant which allows him to work anywhere there's a wifi signal. This allows him to work from the sportsbook at Red Rock Resort or the food court at The Venetian where you’ll find fast and free wifi. Writing about steak, booze, gambling and Las Vegas is a tough job but somebody has to do it.
