Caesars Palace is one of the most famous casino names anywhere in the world. The casino and resort opened on August 5, 1966. This year marks its 50th anniversary and Caesars Entertainment is taking the entire year to celebrate. While festivities weren’t underway in January, the year kicked off with a renovation of the oldest tower in the hotel and casino. The Forum Tower was renamed, reimagined and renovated to become the Julius Tower. You can see a preview of the renovations from earlier this year here and soon you’ll be able to see a full review.

Caesars Palace’s Celebration

The festivities celebrating the 50th anniversary of Caesars Palace are now officially underway. On June 17th the resort unveiled its 50 day countdown to its golden anniversary on August 5, 2016. Caesar and Cleopatra kicked off the “Summer of Caesars” festivities which included the debut of the self-guided walking tour. These tours are easy to find throughout the casino as there are number spots marking important historical locations throughout the property. Each of these numbered places makes for a good place to stop and take a photo.

The “Summer of Caesars” kicked into high gear during the recent holiday weekend. Caesars Entertainment took their annual 4th of July fireworks show and used it to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Caesars Palace. Their traditionally huge 13½ minute fireworks display took place directly above the newly renovated Julius Tower (remember, this is the original tower of the hotel).

Events & Promotions

There are a number of additional 50th anniversary events and promotions planned throughout the summer. Some of the highlights include the following:

  • Anniversary Weekend, Aug. 5-6: This golden anniversary weekend includes a commemorative cake and champagne toast. There will also be a gala for invited guests and VIPs, special 50th Anniversary room packages, commemorative merchandise, random surprises and more. This gala will probably be a big deal with celebrities, casino moguls and government officials all in attendance.
  • 50th Birthday Celebration Offer: If you are celebrating your 50th birthday in 2016 you can celebrate at Caesars Palace and receive a $50 food and beverage credit with your stay during the Summer of Caesars. In addition to being 21, you must be a Total Rewards loyalty program member. You can visit the CP50 website for more information.
  • #IAmCaesar Sweepstakes: This launched in conjunction with the Summer of Caesars earlier this year. You can enter for a chance to win a number of prizes and experiential packages. Visit the CP50 website for complete details and official rules. There’s no purchase necessary but you must be 21 to enter.

Caesars’ Evolution

Caesars Palace has evolved so much over the past 50 years that it’s almost difficult to comprehend. Its evolution has made Caesars Palace a unique resort and casino in Las Vegas. The property is nothing like it was 50 years ago. Few hotels equal the organized chaos of design you see at Caesars Palace today. There are now 5 hotel towers, multiple casino areas, a massive nightclub and more. Consequently, you can see this patchwork layout while walking through the property.

Caesars Palace doesn’t have the flow of a resort that ever expected to be this large. You would certainly see a different layout for Caesars Palace if the resort and casino were built today. There have been so many changes to the property in recent years that you might want to use the 50th anniversary as an excuse to visit again.
