In the battle of the casino loyalty programs, when it comes to Las Vegas there is no doubt that Mlife is the king of the castle, the one everyone has looked up to in order to make their clubs either better or more user friendly for the card holding player. But with MGM’s complete acquisition of Borgata from Boyd we here at TZ were left pondering what exactly would happen when it came to Mlife and Borgata’s existing (and arguably just as good if not better) My Borgata rewards program. Well, ponder no longer…
Borgata Atlantic City Transitions To Mlife
It seems that slowly but surely My Borgata will vanish into the vast sea of Mlife tiers and rules. In a letter sent out to My Borgata members, the transition is outlined to be completed sometime in 2017. With lines like “You can rest assured…” and “…can continue to expect and enjoy the finest in amenities and personalized service here at Borgata.” the spin is that the transition to Mlife for Black Label card holders will be smooth and grand. Reading a bit closer it seems anything but however.
First is the fact that Black Label members will translate not into Platinum, as one would expect with the kind of play it takes to get that status at Borgata, but only Gold within Mlife. While this may cover some lower tier Black Label members, it’s hardly fair to those who are on the upper echelon of play that still falls under the same system as Borgata has fewer tiers than Mlife.
Second, My Borgata rewards will become Mlife Rewards. Knowing the way Mlife Rewards generally have paired up to My Borgata Rewards (which I still receive after one trip to AC several years ago) I seriously doubt that there won’t be some tightening of the belt here. “You can rest assured that when the transition occurs, your Black Label status, balances, and offers will all be maintained and transferred to Mlife.” That statement alone gives me pause to think that there will be changes, and how that occurs will come with the transition. Both systems use different points and different reward methods, and while Mlife is generous, none I’ve seen is as generous in terms of level-matching, point earning, and rewards as My Borgata.
So Borgata folks, get it in while you can, cause changes are coming and knowing MGM (ahem, charging for parking in Vegas to make more revenue) the transition is likely to be turbulent. So buckle up and enjoy your My Borgata rewards while you can because soon your Black Card is going to be no better than Gold.
