The first wave of openings took place in downtown Las Vegas and around the city just after midnight on June 4. The Vegas Strip casinos waited until sunrise to open their doors. For sure we can say, Vegas Is Back…Kinda.

The average daily room rate is the average of all Las Vegas hotels from every day of the week and does not include resort fees, parking fees, or taxes. So, while a midweek room in downtown Las Vegas might have been $30, a hotel room during CES on the Vegas Strip might have cost $270. Together the prices of the hotel rooms averaged $150 each.

The casino operator reported earnings last week and had some interesting information to share. After reporting earnings I found, even more, information from Caesars Entertainment. That information wasn’t “interesting” but it you should hear it anyway. Let’s start with the good news.

It begins, on Wednesday this week gambling downgrades by MGM at Borgata Atlantic City took on of it’s first victims. Craps (dice) odds. Historically, Atlantic City was always the “home” of 5x odds at craps games. Las Vegas was known for 3x 4x 5x odds, with some exceptions throughout.

You might have heard that there was a presidential election this week. There will be a new President next year and some people are happy while others are sad. I’m less concerned with the politics than the gambling. Go figure. This was a record-breaking year for a US presidential election around the world – but not in the country where the election was actually held. Sports books outside of the US saw record amounts of money wagered on who would become the next President. Some gamblers won bigly as Donald Trump was a long shot for much of the time.

They’re already available for play, but the “official” debut of the first video-gaming machines in a U.S.-based casino is Nov. 2 at Bally’s Wild Wild West, Caesars and Harrah’s. The premier game, “Danger Arena,” is a first-person action video game in which player skill determines the payout.
