This week’s COVID-19 update from Las Vegas will be super short. There’s a lot of related news from Boyd and MGM earnings reports that center around the impact of COVID in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas Open – Vegas Open
Las Vegas is pretty much at a standstill with COVID-19 right now. This isn’t to say it’s gone by any stretch of the imagination. There’s just not much new to share. (At least, we can finally announce: Caesars Merger Complete!)
It looks like COVID-19 ain’t going away quickly so we’ll start the Vegas News once again with a brief update. According to White House data, Nevada is a hot zone and Las Vegas is in particularly bad shape. You can read about the recommendations here and as always see the current data here.
Phase 2 of Nevada’s roadmap to recovery has been extended until the end of July. The State, like much of the country, appears to be going in the wrong direction regarding COVID-19 cases. As a reminder, the Nevada Independent has the raw data if you want to see up to date information. There is also a big question? “Vegas Open Now, Closed Tomorrow?”
This Vegas News column is not your one-stop shop for information on the virus. We’re not going to avoid discussing COVID-19 but will focus more on what you can do today and tomorrow when visiting Las Vegas.
I thought about writing an intro this week but this trip report is a good enough reminder about what Las Vegas casinos are like right now. Las Vegas continues to reopen and will be for a while.
Nobody ever thought we would be saying the phrase “Vegas Is Open.” If you are not a true lover of all things Vegas, you might not understand what it means to return to Las Vegas. That feeling you get when see the strip landing at LAS. That feeling you get. You have arrived. You have not just arrived anywhere, you have arrived in Las Vegas.
This is the week, so many of us have been waiting for. Las Vegas casinos are allowed to reopen. The first wave of openings took place in downtown Las Vegas and around the city just after midnight on June 4. The Vegas Strip casinos waited until sunrise to open their doors. For sure we can say, Vegas Is Back…Kinda.
