Before I get to the “big” Vegas News about the Resorts World plan, I must say this has been a chaotic two-week stretch with friends visiting. So many people I know visit Las Vegas for work and/or pleasure. Being able to catch up with friends and acquaintances so frequently is part of what makes living in Las Vegas so great.
There’s not much of an introduction this week. While there was lots of little Vegas News, the wasn’t much big news. Also, I’m slightly hungover because of visitors.
Historically, there is more money wagered on football in Nevada than all other sports combined. While the Nevada Gaming Control Board doesn’t break out pro versus college, anecdotally the NFL sees about 60% of the football wagers while college sees 40% of the wagers. Seems like a perfect time of year to talk about watching football In Las Vegas.
It’s earnings season and we’re in the middle of a bunch of corporate news (MGM Earnings) from and about casinos in Las Vegas + Vegas News Scoop…….
This week Caesars Entertainment hired Goldman Sachs to help them deal with activist investors. In the same article, the NY Post says that MGM Resorts International might be interested in buying Caesars Entertainment “if it can do so in a friendly deal.” + all the Las Vegas scoop!
Boyd Gaming has been doing great business in Las Vegas over the past couple of years. The locals casinos and downtown casinos have been attracting locals and tourists alike. Their earnings call and report for the second quarter was further proof of that.
The best of Las Vegas is different for everyone. My best of Las Vegas can be different depending on the time of day. Some casino experiences are best when the sun is out while others are more fun at night.
More than a few people I know are noticing the increased number of promotions for Caesars that we mentioned last week. I saw comps almost across the board in my Total Rewards app and decided to book a night at Planet Hollywood. I had to shoot some video of the new Block 16 Food Hall at the Cosmopolitan so I figured I’d get a room and work in my room instead of driving back home. Lazy? Sure. Fun? You bet!
There’s so much talk about fees being out of control in Las Vegas but only one financial issue. There are plenty of price increases happening in Las Vegas beyond the fees.
The first weekend of March Madness is one of the best times of the year to be in Las Vegas. The long weekend of fun begins on Thursday, March 15, with 16 basketball games. However, there are some viewing options that offer a great viewings experience for little to no cost.
