It’s your bi-monthly edition of Vegas News! We’re going to change things up in my weekly column for the next couple of months.
The news will still be delivered every other week. In the weeks I don’t share what’s happening in Las Vegas, we’re going to explore what you’ll experience at ZorkFest in November.
There will be plenty of gambling and travel information brought to you by some of the smartest people in their field at ZorkFest. Many of the casino topics are old hat for me but the event is useful beyond casinos and travel.
During the first ZorkFest, I learned that I can apply some of these tips and tricks to my everyday life. Nobody will understand how I get a little too excited by saving $1 per gallon for gas and getting cash back for the purchase.
While presenters were explaining how to maximize miles and points for travel and casino visits I was thinking about other ways to use the information. I’m always open to learning new tips and tricks for things I enjoy regularly from gambling to buying gas.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to ZorkFest but it’s time to get to the Vegas News from the past couple of weeks.
Caesars And MGM Earnings News (and more)
I love the aerial view of Caesars Palace. The mish-mosh of the hotel towers reminds me why I used to always get lost trying to navigate the property.
I also marvel at how they built a casino with a single hotel tower and kept expanding over the years. Nobody would design a casino like this from scratch but somehow it works – even if people get lost.

Caesars reported earnings since the last Vegas News column. You can read the press release with financials here.
I thought it was strange that the company made it a point to say that this was its best WSOP ever. They noted how WSOP drives hotel room sales, F & B revenue, and more. The company also noted that it barely makes money from WSOP online.
Shortly after the earnings call the company sold the WSOP brand. However, Caesars will still host WSOP for 20 years. Aha! Read more here.
The Caesars Palace Poker Room is closed “temporarily.” The company says it will reopen after the high-limit slots room renovation is completed. Like most things with this company, I’ll believe it when I see it. Read more here.
Horseshoe is now the only Caesars Las Vegas property with a poker room.
Speaking of Horseshoe, during the earnings call the new Versailles Tower (formerly part of Horseshoe) at Paris is already making more money per room. The revenue increase was expected and will be greater during the second half of the year with the balcony rooms opening in July.
You can read more about Caesars’ earnings and Las Vegas news from the call here.
Rod Stewart will return to Caesars Palace next year. Read more here.
Rod Stewart got a haircut at The Barbershop inside Cosmopolitan. This is the most fun promo pic I’ve seen in a while.
The pic you didn't know you needed to start the week:

MGM Resorts also reported earnings. You can read the press release with financials here.
Much of the Las Vegas news from MGM evolves around the “Big 3” – Aria, Bellagio, and Cosmopolitan. Like most casino corporations in 2024, the company is laser-focused on high-end customers. I shared specifics here.
Look for new suites across the board next year. When the company finishes its MGM Grand renovations that furniture will be donated to Excalibur for a cheap upgrade.
One specific note of interest is that Mariott Bonvoy guests spend about $100 more per day than the guests they’re replacing. About half of the money is for rooms and the other half for non-gaming amenities.
I shared my thoughts on The Cosmopolitan becoming an MGM Rewards property last week. No need to rehash that but it’s new from the last time we had Vegas News in late July.
The company swapped Holsteins for a Mexican restaurant at The Cosmopolitan. Read more here.
Don’t be surprised to see more restaurant changes at the property now that it’s 100% in the MGM system.
Location-related: Jason Aldean’s Kitchen will open between Aria and The Cosmopolitan. Read more here.
