Preamble: Since I cover Las Vegas daily, I don’t spend as much time on what’s happening in Atlantic City. While doing research for today’s column, I noticed that numerous Atlantic City casinos regularly offer large Tier Multiplier promotions.
I was looking for other info, but it seems Hard Rock, Ocean, and Tropicana (Caesars) have the most multiplier days. We don’t have nearly as many options in Las Vegas, so I thought I’d pass the info on while it’s on my mind. Now, to the reason we’re here.
My History With Gambling Promotions
Many TravelZork readers and listeners are fiends for maximizing casino rewards. While I’m not quite a fiend myself, I do like to get the most value when possible. That said, I’ve never been one to chase rewards.
Casino rewards have always been a bonus for me. It’s great if I can plan visits around promotions, but I won’t gamble just to earn them.
We all have different priorities in life. I used to focus on getting the most for every dollar spent inside a casino. Life has taken me in a direction where I can only do this occasionally.
Living and working in Las Vegas takes me to different casinos at different times, often on days I can’t control. I also rarely gamble when visiting casinos nowadays (GASP!).
Most of my visits to casinos are for work, meetings, or to eat and/or drink with friends. While some of that might include gambling, it’s far less frequent than when I lived on the East Coast and almost always visited casinos purely for fun. It’s a weird shift.
That said, my preferences in casino promotions have changed over the years. There was a time when I focused on Tier Multipliers just to get the best benefits and comps. I’d probably do that even more now with so many Tier Matching promotions.
When I first moved to Las Vegas and had more flexibility in my schedule, I sought out bonus reward credits whenever possible. Since my gambling was spread across multiple casinos, I just wanted to earn enough points to cover meals, drinks, etc., whenever I could.
That’s still somewhat true, but I’m less focused on casino gambling than ever. My interest in sports betting has returned after a dip during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
TBH, I’m more concerned with finding great casino happy hour deals than anything else today. In case you’re curious, the Happy Hour at the Yard House inside Red Rock Casino is one of my favorites.
Enough about me! What about you? What are your favorite casino promotions?
So Many Casino Gambling Promotions
I’ve been gambling since grade school and in casinos since I turned 21. Rewards programs aren’t what they used to be, but they still offer perks that most casino visitors will never see.
I’ve already shared my preferences—now I want to hear yours. As I mentioned earlier, Atlantic City casinos seem to have the most aggressive promotions.
Here are some common casino gambling promotions you’ll find in most markets. I’ll break down the basics in case any new readers are here today:
- Free play: Credits to use in machine games.
- Tier multipliers: Multiplies how many tier credits are earned while gambling.
- Tier match: One casino upgrades your tier level because you have a higher ranking at a different program
- Slot machine or table game tournaments: Free to enter with either reward credit or cash prizes.
- Bonus reward credits: Earn extra reward points to be used on comps.
- Hot seat: Win random free-play prizes just for playing. Usually for machine games.
- Product giveaways: Casinos give away random products based on tier level or points earned.
- Product sweepstakes: Earn entries for a product for every x number of points earned.
I’m sure I missed some gambling-based promotions. Feel free to share your favorite that I may have missed.
