During my recent trip to Las Vegas, I successfully matched my Caesars Rewards Diamond Elite
status to Virgin Las Vegas’ Cherry Rewards All-Access tier—and I’m glad I did.
As usual, I am eager to pursue tier matching opportunities to maximize value from the statuses I
earn through Video Poker play during Caesars Rewards 10x Tier Multiplier promotions, credit
card spend (especially MGM Rewards credit cards), and online Blackjack play with an
advantage. See my past articles for more exploration into those topics.
The match process was simple. The player’s club was closed, so I completed the match at the
cashier’s cage and immediately received two $50 dining vouchers and $10 in free slot play
(usable on Video Poker).
America Loves Math
Virgin was advertising “up to $1,000 in free slot play” for new sign-ups, but the top reward
required a very high amount of coin-in and was clearly -EV. Instead, I aimed for the first tier: 700
points, requiring $2,100 in coin-in (Video Poker is 3:1 or 1:3), to earn an additional $10 in free
play. I played 9/5 single-line $1 Jacks or Better at five credits per hand—one of the better
paytables on property (multiline had worse returns).
With perfect play, 9/5 Jacks or Better has a return of 98.45%, so I expected to lose around $20
for $2,100 in playthrough. Factoring in $10 in free play and comped drinks, it was a close-to-
break-even play—and potentially worthwhile for generating return offers, as some players report
getting stronger offers after playing on their first visit.
Cherry Rewards All-Access also offers valuable ongoing perks. Virgin’s brochure mentions two
$50 dining vouchers per month during a 90-day trial period (unless extended with more play).
Matching in August could yield $100 in September and another $100 in October. The tier also
includes up to three complimentary nights per quarter, so potentially six nights, with reduced or
waived resort fees. Plus, I may receive a birthday offer in September.
I used my first $50 voucher at Chef Xue, where generous portions of spicy Chinese eggplant,
tofu with vegetables, and spring rolls were under $50. I used the second voucher for breakfast
at The Kitchen, ordering a veggie omelet, yogurt parfait, and coffee—also under $50, though the
portions were smaller.
War on Happiness
Interestingly, Virgin Las Vegas ranked my Caesars Rewards Diamond Elite status higher than MGM
Platinum for the purposes of matching. That was surprising, so I was glad to hold both statuses.
Hopefully, I’ll also be approved for Caesars Seven Stars after my next 10x tier multiplier session
in Atlantic City (August 25–29).
