New Jersey regulators approve sale of Bally’s
The New Jersey Casino Control Commission has given approval to Twin River Worldwide Holdings to operate Bally’s Atlantic City and invest in renovations and repairs. Twin River, which is changing its name to Bally’s Corp. Nov. 9, is in the process of buying the casino from Caesars Entertainment Inc. for $25 million. The sale is expected to close later this month. The state’s Division of Gaming Enforcement said at least $75 million of the $90 million Twin River plans to invest in renovations and repairs should be spent within three years. The company says it intends to renovate hotel rooms, as well as upgrade restaurants, entertainment offerings, and its pool and spa, and replace or repair critical infrastructure in the 41-year-old facility. Twin River claims it can make Bally’s “a place to see and be seen” by beefing up its offerings. “We want to make sure Bally’s is competitive again and return it to its former glory,” said Marc Crisafulli, a Twin River executive vice president. “We’re committed to making it a signature property again at the center of the Boardwalk.”
Good sports
FanDuel and Twin River Worldwide Holdings will open an in-person sportsbook at Bally’s casino once the casino’s sale to Twin River is finalized. Once that occurs, all nine Atlantic City casinos will have on-location sportsbooks. FanDuel told The Associated Press last month that it plans to have a temporary sports betting facility in the casino before the end of the year, and will build a permanent sportsbook on the center of the casino floor next spring.

The new “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” slot machine is debuting exclusively at Golden Nugget Casino, Hotel & Marina. It’s located in the back section of the casino floor.

Klein Transportation resumes trips to Atlantic City
Klein Transportation Inc., Douglassville, Pa., has resumed round-trip transportation to Caesars and Resorts Casino Hotel after being suspended since March due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. The bus trips will be available on Wednesdays and Sundays. Alison Klein Sherman, the company’s vice president of finance, said that Klein has developed the plan, Extreme Clean Commitment, with input from national and local motorcoach associations and motorcoach manufacturers. Klein has intensified cleaning of its buses, upgraded filters and UV lights have been added to the buses’ HVAC systems, and new partitions have been installed behind the drivers. EPA registered disinfectants are used to fog the buses mid-trip and at the conclusion of each trip. Additional information is available here.
Closed for business
Located inside The Playground, Buddakan and The Continental, which have been closed since mid-March, will not reopen. Both were victims of the coronavirus and the restrictions that came with it, according to Philadelphia restaurateur Stephen Starr. The Playground has had extremely low levels of foot traffic and a majority of its stores have been empty for more than a year. Caesars Entertainment Inc. recently repurchased The Playground from developer Bart Blatstein.
CDC lifts ‘No-Sail’ order
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has lifted its No-Sail Order which has restricted all cruise travel to and from the United States. The order originally was issued by the CDC March 14 and extended twice. The filing is called a “framework for conditional sailing” and outlines the testing process that the cruise lines must go through to resume operations safely. The first phase calls for testing and safeguards for crew members, followed by “simulated voyages” to make sure that cruise lines can mitigate the risk of COVID-19. After that, the agency will allow a “phased return” to passenger voyages. “This framework provides a pathway to resume safe and responsible sailing. It will mitigate the risk of COVID-19 outbreaks on ships and prevent passengers and crew from seeding outbreaks at ports and in the communities where they live,” CDC Director Robert R. Redfield said. The CDC’s new guidance will be in effect for cruises to and from U.S. ports of call until Monday, Nov. 1, 2021.
