The MGM Skylofts are one of my favorite places to stay. Here’s an update of our last review :
There are four types of rooms. The single bedrooms, the slightly larger single bedrooms near the front desk, two bedrooms with either a pool table or a foosball table, and the Barbara Streisand suite with two bedrooms, a piano, and the hot tub. Personally, I prefer the slightly large single bedroom suite. It is only an additional $100 comp dollars. You are guaranteed a good view and it is slightly more spacious. Much of the extra space is near the entryway and behind the minibar near the stairs. And the table is placed in the middle of the room.
The rooms have recently undergone some renovations and modernizations. When they opened, they were state of the art. Over time the technology became a bit passé. All of the televisions are now LG flatscreens. The bottom level has new carpeting. The printers have been removed from the business area. And instead of a large control panel like an iPad and always ran out of power, they have iPads.
There are a few things which were not mentioned in the last review on TravelZork. For cigar smokers such as baccarat_guy, there is a large ashtray and long wooden Skyloft matches under the sink near the barware. You have to know it is there.
The minibar is incredible. Just like any luxury hotel or restaurant, they keep careful records of your preferences for future visits. If you drink a lot of Pellegrino’s, there were be more for you when you arrive. They have half bottles of white wine and champagne inside the refrigerator as well as soda, the already mentioned Pellegrino, Fiji water, Red Bull, and beer. On top of the refrigerator is a varity of 375 ml liquors and a rotating red wine. Last year they had the 2012 Darioush, which was amazing. You also have a expresso machine and four types of coffee beans.
Now enough can be said about the shower. In my preferred Skyloft there are two separate overhead showerheads as well as the four horizontal nozzles. It is also a steam shower! In the dry climate of Las Vegas nothing beats sitting in the steam shower on the bench for five minutes. They have Bulgari amenities. Until the economic downturn of 2008 they had very large soaps which we called “hockey pucks” which would be refreshed several times a day.
One of the subtle amenities is a bookmark service. If you leave a book without a bookmark or just a piece of paper keeping your place, they insert a Skyloft bookmark for you!
You can see why I love to stay at the MGM Skylofts, and all that’s left for me to say is that you should go check it out yourself! Please tell me how it was.
