One of the great perks of Hyatt Gold Passport is their partnership with MGM’s Mlife program. They offer a status match that is very good with Hyatt Diamonds mapping to Mlife Platinum. That’s one notch down from MGM’s, by invitation only, Noir status. There’s a good number of benefits to being Mlife platinum, including lots of line jumping for restaurants, events, check-in and more, but one of the best is getting discounted rates on hotel rooms. But these benefits can evaporate if you take your eye off the ball and let Mlife downgrade you this month.
I’ve been doing a thorough evaluation of my Hyatt Diamond status given Hyatt’s announcement of World of Hyatt, their revenue-based revamp of the HGP program. On the popular travel, miles and points blog, Flyertalk.com, I came across the following informative post:
“Be advised that October seems to be the renewal month for resetting your Tier membership. If you have an upcoming trip to LAS, be sure to verify your MLife membership matches your HGP level.
I just came across this thread and found that my MLife level reset back to Sapphire. I called HGP at (800) 323-7249 (from the website) and the rep transferred me to MLife to match tiers. The MLife rep said that it could take 7-10 working days to convert me over, and I have a LAS trip next week. I’ll be staying at the MGM Grand and I’ve booked a room rate as a MLife Platinum, but I’m now a Sapphire.
This will be cutting it close. Don’t make my mistake – check your membership level now.”
Many Hyatt Gold Passport elite members don’t accrue enough tier points in Mlife to qualify outright for elevated status. They gain their status in Mlife through their HGP status earned through Hyatt stays or Mlife stays where they have submitted both their Mlife and HGP credentials. That’s fairly straight forward. Many would assume that they would retain their Mlife status as long as they maintained their HGP status. But, as you can see from the quote above, that’s not the case.
I checked my own status when I was at the MGM Grand in October 2016 and they were able to confirm to me that I would be Platinum through September of 2017. They also issued me a card with those dates printed on the front. That’ll come in handy when I head back to Vegas in December.
I still believe that Caesars’ Total Rewards program is a better program for lovers of all things gaming, but I can’t ignore my ability to earn Stay and Point benefits when I stay at a Mlife property in Vegas.
