One Year With the MGM Iconic Credit Card: Why I Am Keeping It

Loyalty and Points Corner

The MGM Iconic credit card is easily one of the best credit cards in my wallet, even going into year two with the $249 annual fee posting. MGM Iconic is highly underrated and can provide great value for miles, points, and casino enthusiasts.

As of July 2026, the MGM Iconic card offers a 30,000-point welcome bonus in addition to 15,000 bonus Tier Credits.

You Can Gain Status from Gambling and Credit Card Spending

One Year With the MGM Iconic Card

One year after card approval, I’m extremely happy with the MGM Iconic credit card. Thanks to MGM Iconic, I earned MGM Platinum status by loading funds to BetMGM,* playing blackjack at the 1x earning rate, spending at grocery stores and gas stations at the 2x rate, and spending at MGM Rewards locations at the 6x rate.

Spending on the Iconic credit card earns Slot Dollars, which can be used as free play or converted to MGM Rewards Points for comps. Cardholders also earn Tier Credits toward MGM Gold and Platinum status.

For those interested in casino status and complimentary cruises, MGM Iconic is a very strong credit card.

MGM Gold and Platinum Benefits

The MGM Iconic card automatically provides MGM Pearl status, which includes free casino parking and several other benefits.

Earning MGM Gold status at 75,000 Tier Credits, including through credit card spending, awards a complimentary oceanview cruise. Gold status also includes benefits such as waived resort fees at MGM casinos and a $100 Tier Achievement Celebration dining credit.

Earning MGM Platinum status at 200,000 Tier Credits provides a complimentary balcony cruise, a $600 airfare reimbursement, a $200 Tier Achievement Celebration dining credit, late checkout where available, and room upgrades where available.

Anniversary Credits Offset the Annual Fee

With my annual fee posting this month, I’m seeing two Milestone Rewards in my MGM app: a $250 Iconic Resort Credit and a $200 Iconic Resort Credit.

The $200 benefit is a cardmember anniversary bonus awarded simply for keeping the credit card. It can be applied to an MGM Rewards Points balance and used for hotel rooms, food, shows, and other eligible expenses.

When valued at face value, this benefit reduces the effective cost of the $249 annual fee to only $49.

The $250 bonus is likely the “Complimentary Night Up to $250” benefit awarded at the card anniversary after spending $25,000 on the credit card. Reaching $25,000 in annual card spending also awards 10,000 bonus Tier Credits.

I will attempt to redeem the $250 Milestone Reward during my August trip to Las Vegas. I’m hoping it can be added to my overall MGM Rewards Points balance rather than simply offsetting one night of my Park MGM stay, which I booked for the very low price of $15 per night.

Cruise Matches and Additional Status Benefits

For even more value, it’s often possible to match cruise offers earned through MGM Gold and Platinum status to cruise more than twice per year.

I’ve matched offers to Virgin Voyages, Margaritaville at Sea, Carnival, Princess, and other cruise companies.

MGM Platinum status can also be matched directly to Ocean Casino Resort Prime status in Atlantic City. Ocean Prime benefits may include a complimentary Virgin Voyages cruise, two nights at Wynn Las Vegas (including weekends when available), and additional perks.

MGM Iconic is probably not ideal for infrequent casino visitors, low spenders, or people who have no interest in cruising. However, those with a decent amount of spending may be able to earn at least MGM Gold status, unlocking a complimentary oceanview cruise, waived resort fees, and other benefits.

Some cardholders who aren’t “big gamblers” still enjoy the cruise benefit, complimentary Borgata nights earned through MyVegas, waived resort fees through Gold status, and access to the Amphora Lounge at Borgata.

If you don’t already have the MGM Iconic credit card, it may be worth considering in 2026. When all of the benefits are taken into account, MGM Iconic is easily a keeper card in my wallet.

*Earlier in 2026, BetMGM announced several changes and devaluations affecting account funding. Customers may no longer be able to add new credit cards, including MGM credit cards, and prepaid card loads have been heavily limited. Funding with existing MGM credit cards will allegedly end when those cards expire. Read more here.
