Happy Sunday! I hope your Thanksgiving weekend was as good as mine. Since the week was short, that means we’ll have less news than normal.
About To Be A Lucky Dragon
Lucky Dragon decided to open earlier than they’d initially planned. Twice. The soft opening/preview was supposed to begin on Thanksgiving night. Well, the newest casino in Las Vegas opened last weekend. Besides the lack of sports book and craps games which most people knew about the early reviews have been almost all positive. That always makes me nervous. However, I’m not too nervous, I’ll probably be at Lucky Dragon by the time you read this!
I’ll be visiting Lucky Dragon today and tonight and I have a slew of articles planned for after my visit. A tweet from Scott at Vital Vegas informed me that the property-wide wifi isn’t turned on yet because the hotel and casino is still in a soft opening phase. I’ll look for a workaround to share as much as possible when I’m at the casino. Waiting for news is so 2012!
NHL Gets The Vegas Golden Knights
That’s right, the team name of the new NHL team in Las Vegas is three words and one of them isn’t “Las.” I must be turning into a local because the team name, “Vegas Golden Knights,” reads funny since they’re not using the entire name of the city.
Regardless of the name, somewhere between 1,000 and 5,000 people (depending on the report) were at Toshiba Park, outside of the T-Mobile Arena, for the ceremony revealing the team name. There’s a lot of excitement for the first major league franchise in Las Vegas despite complaints about the name and logo.
Did you know that Nevada produces more gold than any state in America? Neither did I. Thanks, Vegas Golden Knights for the lesson.
You Can Now Go Ice Skating At The Park and Cosmopolitan
Last weekend The Park debuted an ice skating rink at Toshiba Plaza as part of their Holiday at The Park. You can find more information on ice skating and the Christmas stuff here. The non-denominational ice rink at the Boulevard Pool returned a couple of weeks ago. Whether you’re skating or just drinking and eating s’mores, the view is fantastic. You can find more information here.
Binion’s Sold! (Not really)
Binion’s Ranch in Pahrump was sold last week for $1 million. I told you it was a slow news week. The Las Vegas Sun says this was less than half the asking price. In case you’re curious Binion’s Gambling Hall is owned by TLC Casino Enterprises who also own the Four Queens on Fremont Street.
More Restaurant Changes At Gold Coast
Earlier this year Gold Coast replaced the Cortez Room restaurant with Cornerstone Steakhouse. The restaurant shuffle doesn’t seem to be ending there. Eater is reporting that my favorite casino Chinese restaurant, Ping Pang Pong, will be getting “completely demolished and reconfigured” in a $3 million makeover. This hasn’t been confirmed by Boyd Gaming yet and there are no dates attached to the closure and construction.
Possibly related to the Ping Pang Pong news and also not confirmed by Boyd Gaming the showroom at Gold Coast is closed. The space is possibly being made over according to Las Vegas Advisor. The GC has a special place in my heart so I look forward to the changes. In the meantime, I think that one last visit to PPP is in order.
Rumor of the Week: South Point May Be Expanding Again
Many of us spend our time on the Vegas Strip or in downtown Las Vegas casinos. Sometimes news about locals casinos like the South Point gets lost in the deluge of information available. Thankfully, this bit of news came on a slow week. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the South Point has been snapping up nearby land throughout the year. The most recent purchase was 13.6-acres giving South Point almost 30 acres of new land purchased since the beginning of 2015. Plans for the land haven’t been revealed yet.
