Mandalay Bay Las Vegas And Down Memory Lane
Ahhh…the memories. — Mandalay Bay Las Vegas
It doesn’t take much for me to remember amazing moments in Las Vegas.
Sportsbook Tom kicked up a variety of memories with this video of walking into the Mandalay Bay sportsbook.

Prior to moving to Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino was one of the casinos I visited most often. Many of those visits have become core Vegas memories for me.
We all have memories from casinos that are triggered by random images online. Share some of yours on the social media you’re reading this or in the comments below.
I’m going to wax nostalgic about a few memories this video kicked up.
Work and Play at Mandalay Bay Las Vegas
In a previous life, I worked with bands that played the House of Blues chain in Las Vegas and around the country. Las Vegas was often a tour stop between Phoenix and Los Angeles.
While LA was a hub of business it was actually difficult to have time alone with the bands we worked with due to demand from others. We tried to add a Las Vegas leg to the work trips to have some extra time.
Plenty To Do
When we were done with work, there was plenty to do before and after the shows at Mandalay Bay. That’s still the case as this is one of the largest properties in Las Vegas.
When one of those bands would play at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay I could get the “casino rate” for a room. The nightly rate was always under $100.
Between work and play I’ve spent many Sundays watching football at the Mandalay Bay sportsbook. There was always a bartender who would remember me and have my vodka soda ready if he saw me approaching the bar. While the sportsbook has a lot of seating I spent more time at the bar drinking and playing video poker while watching the games.
Mandalay Bay is the first casino where I played Pai Gow Poker. The minimum bet was higher than I’d usually play but since there were so many pushes my budget lasted forever. And I could drink a lot. Both are still the case and Pai Gow Poker is still one of the best values for gambling on the Vegas Strip.
I ended up really learning how to play Pai Gow Poker at the Gold Coast where I could afford to play a little more. Mandalay Bay inspired that decision which is a different core memory of Las Vegas.
One of these visits to Mandalay Bay coincided with a former co-worker getting married at Bali Hai golf course next door. On the walk over to the wedding, my partner called a contact at a record label to make sure “Word of Mouf” from Ludacris was on our desk when we returned to work.
Many people have Las Vegas playlists with Elvis songs. My Las Vegas playlist consisted of songs linked to memories of Las Vegas. “Roll Out” is one of my Las Vegas anthems when I’m ready to get the day or night started.
I could go on but some of the memories aren’t so PG.

My Relationship With Mandalay Bay Today
Things have changed a lot since those visits to Mandalay Bay Las Vegas. I rarely go to the property now that I live in Las Vegas.
I’ll always have a spot in my heart for Mandalay Bay.
Unfortunately for Mandalay Bay, I live diagonally on the other side of Las Vegas. I usually only visit if someone is staying there and doesn’t want to leave. Those people are few and far between as most people I know stay at casinos from the center to the north Vegas Strip now.
There’s just so much more to choose from that is more convenient for me. The roster of closer casinos on the Vegas Strip will increase when Fontainebleau opens in December.
I love shiny new things and so do my friends who visit Las Vegas. I’m ready to create new memories at the new property on the north end of the Vegas Strip.
