“Dula,” a new musical, premieres in Atlantic City at 8 p.m. Aug. 18 and 19 at Dante Hall. “Dula” will be the first work to be presented in Stockton University’s new workshop series. The goal of the series is to present at least three or four new works by local playwrights, or previously unproduced works, each year.
“Dula” is the story of a love triangle that ended in murder and became the nation’s first highly publicized crime of passion. The story has been passed down for more than 150 years through legend and song, yet the truth of these stories always has been questionable.
With a book by Paul Elliott, music by Jeanie Cunningham, and lyrics by both Jeanie Cunningham and Elliott, “Dula” will be directed by Rosemary R. Selah.
