A wise woman once said, “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man (or woman) in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a luxury hotel stay.” Or something like that. If you’re coming to Boston, home of the angry drivers, dulcet swans, and the 2022-23 NBA Champion Boston Celtics, you’ll have some great options for your trip. But when it comes to Boston’s best luxury hotel options, how do you separate the coffee from the CAHfee?
Don’t fret, we’ve done the work for you. And since not everyone has the same tastes, I’ve mixed up the styles of hotels, so there is something for everyone.
Best of all, each of these properties participates in TravelZork Travel‘s Preferred Partner Network, meaning you’ll receive additional amenities, such as breakfast, resort credits, and upgrades. Given how under-roomed Boston is, you’re going to pay a fortune no matter where you stay. You might as well make it memorable.
Traditional Luxury: Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons One Dalton
Everyone has their favorite properties, but among traditionalists, the Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons hotels always finish near the top. Four Seasons recently opened its second location, One Dalton, and while its location isn’t as favorable as the one on Boylston Street, the hotel itself is outstanding.
Mandarin Oriental Boston
The Mandarin Oriental in Boston feels like it has been a part of the city’s luxury hotel scene since the Pilgrims first went searching for Bulgari amenities, so it’s hard to believe it was built less than 15 years ago. It instantly became the top property in the city, with the prices to reflect that fact. The hotel is known for its large guest rooms, classic marble lobby, and one of the best spas in the city. Its Back Bay location also means that you are only a mile from either Fenway Park or the Public Garden, both of which let you walk through Boston’s ritzy shopping district on Newbury and Boylston Streets.
The hotel underwent a $15 million renovation in 2020, meaning that it went under the radar a bit since there were so few guests. The redesign was intended to “soften” the room product a bit and make it feel more residential, and they got their money’s worth. The Boston Globe described it as “less like a pricey retreat for expense accounters and more like your most fabulous friend’s Back Bay condo.” The rooms remain among the largest in the city, starting at 400 square feet, and the formal desk in each room has been replaced by a round table.
Be sure to:
- Check out the spa. It’s one of the best in the city, not to mention the priciest.
- Find a reason to use MOBI, the robot staff member who can check you in or deliver room service.
- Take advantage of the local area. For those who like to walk and get lost in a city, the Mandarin Oriental is the perfect starting point.
