The cure for winter weather in the UK is to find a cheap fare and go somewhere else. The west coast of the United States has wonderful weather while rain and snow fall in the UK. Picture yourself wearing shorts and sunglasses while you stroll through Hollywood, shop in Beverly Hills, admire the sunset at Santa Monica pier or go super tourist at Disneyland. Or you could ride the cable cars in San Francisco, hangout in Union Square or cross the Golden Gate Bridge and have a meal on the waterfront in Sausalito.
Sounds wonderful, right? The only thing holding you back is the cost of airfares to make that 5,437 mile trip. There is some good news for UK based travelers for this kind of a trip. American Airlines and British Airways are having a sale that runs from January through March of 2017. Fares range from £274 to £359 round trip / return, and you can fly in and out of several airports including:

Finding The Fares With Momondo
Momondo is a great travel search engine that has been gaining popularity here in 2016. It handles all of the important search parameters, every major airline I would think of using (and some I wouldn’t), different fares classes and mixed carrier options. Here’s a look at a couple of Momondo searches that will get us from the UK to California in the first quarter of 2016.

That’s a good fare but we can do better than that with a little work and flexibility. Let’s try Inverness to San Fransisco departing on February 1st and returning on February 9th. The best fares all seem to have an eight or nine span for this deal.
That looks like the best deal available as of Sunday, 31 July 2016. It does include Iberia in the mix, so take note of that. If you want to try your own hand at finding a good fare, here’s the steps to take:

- Modify the dates, but try to keep them spaced about 8 or 9 days apart.
