Imploding The Mirage This Week!
This week we celebrate “Imploding The Mirage!” No, not the obviously fake story I made up last month about Sheldon Adelson buying the Mets and moving them to a new baseball stadium across the street on the land where The Mirage once stood.

This week we celebrate the release of The Killers latest album “Imploding The Mirage.” They’re probably the most popular band from Las Vegas right now. You can see the latest single performed on the Colbert show below.
Buy “Imploding The Mirage”
and The Mirage Won’t Be Imploded Anytime Soon
As someone that used to work closely with bands, I recommend you buy the new album (“Imploding The Mirage”) that was released on Friday. if you’re a fan. If you’d rather stream it, you can check it out on Spotify.
Coincidence? NOT “Imploding The Mirage”
But, Mirage Is Reopening This Week
The Mirage won’t be imploded anytime soon. It may be a coincidence but The Mirage is reopening this week. Last week MGM Resorts announced the property will open on August 27.
There was a tweet of the poker room that was repurposed to be a non-smoking slots room. The account that tweeted the photo of the room has been deleted. We should find out if this is real in a few days.
Virgin Las Vegas On Time But Maybe Not

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas sent out a press release on Friday saying that construction on the property was on schedule. Cool. However, the press release also states that the property may not open in November as scheduled. Richard “Boz” Bosworth, President and CEO of JC Hospitality, owner of Virgin Hotels Las Vegas said:
“However, due to current COVID-19 regulations, market conditions and recent event and convention cancellations, the ownership group is carefully evaluating the previously announced Fall 2020 opening date. The ownership group expects to have a date identified by mid-September at which time we will provide full details.”

On August 11, Mr. TravelZork noticed that the Curio Collection website tagged Virgin as opening in January. The next day I was told this isn’t true. I guess we’ll find out when the Virgin Hotel and Mohegan Sun Casino will open in a few weeks. Keep your eyes peeled.
Opening Of The Tropicana Delayed
During the week the Tropicana website flipped its reopening date from September 1 to “will open soon.” Various media outlets have been tweeting that the opening date was pushed back to September 17.
In Other News, Oyo
I’ll believe it when I see it. In other news, Oyo (formerly Hooters and next door to the Tropicana) is supposedly scheduled to open on the same day. That’s another reopening I’ll believe when I see.
While we’re on the topic, it appears as though Eldorado Casino in Henderson will remain closed until next year. You can read more here. Another casino you’ve never been to in North Las Vegas may also remain closed until next year.
Lastly, Casino Royale dumped its table games. Now it’s laying off about 100 employees. This shouldn’t be a surprise.
Station Casinos Is Going Cashless
Cashless payments aren’t a new thing to businesses. However, they have become very popular since COVID-19 started spreading around the world. I’ve been using use cashless payments for some purchases but today almost every purchase is cashless.
Casinos are slowly hopping on the cashless trend. Last year Red Rock casino tested the PlayOn Cashless Table Game Solution. This is a cashless payment technology that allows players to purchase casino chips using a debit card at table games. The field trial was a success and Station Casinos is expanding PlayOn with their other properties.
According to the press release, Station Casinos will also use PlayOn for slot machines, sportsbooks, and poker rooms. You may remember that Circa Resort and Casino will also use PlayOn for cashless gaming. There are fees involved with cashless gaming that vary depending on the property.
Semi-related: Boyd Gaming is switching sports betting tech to IGT in Nevada. In brief, there will be kiosks in casinos, a new mobile app, and the casinos will have new tech in the sportsbooks. You can read the press release here.
