ZorkFest is a lot of things to different people. As I mentioned last time, I find the most valuable the educational seminars to be the most important part of Zorkfest 2024.

The ZorkFest website has been updated so you can find information on all the speakers. There are more than just the handful I highlighted from previous events.

I ended up in this world because I like to gamble as entertainment. Movies and most hobbies that don’t involve sports just don’t do it for me.

I’ve been gambling since grade school. My action moved to casinos shortly after turning 21. 

Gambling has always been about fun with friends for me. We’ll get to that later.

One of the neat parts of Zorkfest is like-minded people hanging out and/or gambling. 

ZorkFest Gambling and Social Events

This year ZorkFest added an educational tract for those who haven’t been gambling for the majority of life. The way I socialize while gambling has changed a lot over the years.

There will be training sessions for two games at ZorkFest this year. The Coffee Dice and Blackjack labs are sessions where experienced gamblers will teach how to play craps and blackjack.

The sessions should be good for players with any level of experience. New players can learn the basics. Experienced players can learn some tips that might have never come up before. 

The labs will take place during the cocktail reception, morning coffee, and other breaks during the ZorkFest 2024 weekend.

Anthony Curtis from Las Vegas Advisor is one of the sharpest blackjack players in the country. He’ll help train new and experienced players in the game. 

Josh Duffy from Crap Vegas and Mark DeVol from You Can Bet On That will share their knowledge about the most fun game in the casino – craps. 

Those who have no interest in gambling can simply mix and mingle over coffee or a cocktail. Casino trips have always been about socializing as much as they are gambling for me. However, the way I get together with friends in casinos has changed – especially since moving to Las Vegas.

My Gambling And Socializing Evolution

My preference for casino games started with blackjack. This was the game most people older than me played and I wanted to hang out with my friends in the casino.

I moved to craps because it looked like the most fun game in the casino. I was right and it quickly became my favorite game after learning how to play at the old Hard Rock. You’ll find that tale when I said goodbye to the Hard Rock a few years ago.

Pai Gow Poker is my preferred table game today. The pace is slower and the strategy is simple. It’s also a good value if I’m drinking and gambling on the Vegas Strip.

While I started with other games, video poker shaped my gambling life. One day when planning a casino visit I noticed that my friend who only played video poker was getting much better offers than my table game play. 

I was somewhat cranky about his offers. My gambling budget was at least double his. 

There had to be a reason for this. I wanted those offers so I learned everything I could about video poker and rewards programs. 

Learning how to play video poker perfectly (or close to it) and adding a little slot play were the key ingredients for unlocking great offers in the casinos. 

We were living the dream with RFB (complimentary room, food, beverage) offers during the week and LFB (limited) on the weekends. We played mostly at less popular casinos because they treated our budgets much better than the fancier properties. 

My gambling has changed a lot since I moved to Las Vegas. Money is no longer focused on one casino rewards program since I visit so many different properties.

Socializing is probably the most important part of my gambling today. I’m less concerned with comps (GASP!) since the money is so spread out.

Craps is the most social game for a group of people in a casino. The vibes are amazing and unmatched.

Pai Gow Poker is probably the old-person version of that. Both games represent where I’ve been in different times of my life.

When I was younger I loved the rush of group gambling around the craps table. Today, I prefer a chill hang with my friends when gambling.

Visiting casinos and gambling has always been about hanging out with friends and having a fun activity. That’s still the case and ZorkFest 2024 can help you go on a similar journey in a lot less time.

Zorkfest has offered an education that I can use inside and outside of the casino. I’ve also met some great people. I think others can unlock similar experiences at Zorkfest.
