The Finest Vegas News | Sometimes we have an action-packed week of news. I like slower news weeks. The lack of “must cover” news allows me to look at some of the Las Vegas news and rumors that you may not have seen all week long.
When I was thinking of a fun way to summarize the Vegas News this week a lyric from the band Thursday came to mind. “It starts and stops and starts and stops again” is basically how the casino industry has been operating for the past few weeks…actually years. Have a look.
One of the most popular sights in Las Vegas is the “Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas” sign. Unlike the magnificent fountain show at Bellagio and other famous things to see in Las Vegas, it’s not located right in the middle of the action. The iconic Las Vegas Sign is technically located on the world famous Las Vegas Strip, but it’s isolated and away from everything else you’ll see in Las Vegas.
We’re going to start off the Vegas News this week with a little baseball. I want to share the picture of the new Las Vegas Aviators mascots because…well, you need to see this.
I finally made it to Atlantic City. I have gone to Vegas 3-8 times a year for the last two decades. I have gone to the other gamblin’ hubs like Biloxi, Tunica (RIP), and even Laughlin (RIP…oh wait that was just the general feeling of near death-ness there). But I finally made it to the East Coast mecca. I needed to get there and opportunity presented itself…in February.
This week was another look into the future of Las Vegas. Two off-strip casinos that I used to love visiting as a tourist but not as much as a local are turning over a new leaf.
It has been almost seven months since the first full casino opened in Massachusetts as part of the Massachusetts Expanded Gaming Act signed into law in 2012. MGM Springfield Resort Casino has had its share of growing pains while giving the city of Springfield hope and confidence in its future, something the city has not had for decades. For myself, it has been an enjoyable past time to watch the second Massachusetts casino since it opened in August of 2018. I consider it a bewildering property on New England’s casino landscape. Let’s look at how they got here.
