In December 2024, Comenity Bank/Bread Financial released the Unity by Hard Rock Mastercard Credit Card, an interesting new option for miles & points and casino loyalists.
Like the MGM Mastercard and Caesars Rewards Visa, the Hard Rock Mastercard doesn’t offer a huge signup bonus or welcome offer but offers good value for those who earned Hard Rock Icon status through play or matched casino statuses to acquire Icon status.
How It Works
After $1000 in spending, new cardholders earn 10,000 Unity points or $100 in comps. Additionally, the card has bonus categories: 5x Unity Points for spending at Hard Rock non-casino properties (including Hard Rock Cafes), 4x Unity Points for spending at Hard Rock casino properties, 2x Unity Points at restaurants and grocery stores, and 1x everywhere else.
Personally, I’m most interested in the 2x grocery spending category because I often buy prepaid cards and gift cards at grocery stores and can spend online in creative ways with the grocery category. In addition to the 2x grocery category, Hard Rock Mastercard cardholders can also pay this credit card in creative ways, earning more rewards since Comenity/Bread Financial issues the card.
Unity and Icon
I recently got approved for this credit card and am looking forward to using Unity Points, in combination with Icon status, at Hard Rock Atlantic City. Icon members gain access to the Fresh Harvest Buffet through a priority line at a discounted rate of 1000 Unity Points (or add one guest for an additional 1000 points). They can also access the Icon Lounge, which offers good food and alcohol, for 1000 Unity Points (or add a guest for an additional 1000 points).
On Thursdays, the Fresh Harvest Buffet offers more seafood options, and the price increases to 2500 Unity Points per person, but some may still find value in the seafood buffet. Personally, I’d visit the Icon Lounge instead of using 1500 more Unity Points.
Options and Diversification
Before this credit card, I had Icon status, but I used it very little because I lacked comps to access the lounge or visit the buffet at a discounted rate. I frequent the Borgata Amphora Lounge and buffet using comps from MGM Mastercard spending. Still, I enjoy having other options, especially if I’m on the boardwalk instead of the marina area. Diversification is good.
When the Hard Rock Las Vegas property opens, Unity Points may also be helpful in Las Vegas. The Hard Rock Las Vegas casino may offer food deals, a lounge, a discounted buffet, or something else that allows for additional value on the use of Unity Points. I usually eat at MGM properties using MyVegas rewards combined with comps, but more options can be good.
Is It For You?
Those new to miles and points should probably pass on the Hard Rock Mastercard, but veterans of the hobby will likely appreciate this card more because they’ve already had the flashier cards with other banks, or they won’t be approved for more cards with certain issuers because of past activity and an extensivecredit profile. As always, the answer to everything is more credit cards.
