The Keukenhof Experience
When you’re visiting Amsterdam or have a layover at AMS (Amsterdam Airport Schiphol), going to the Keukenhof is most certainly worth your while. The Keukenhof is one of Amsterdam’s most famous places to visit. The amazing gardens are inspirational, historical and amazing to walk through. This year they have more then 800 different kinds of tulips, with over 7 million flowers in bloom!
This year’s 2016 theme is “The Golden Age”:
The highlight of the theme year is the flower bulb mosaic beside the Oranje Nassau Pavilion. This shows a Delft Blue tile on which the trade across the seas and the rich canal-side houses of Amsterdam are depicted. The mosaic covers an area of 250m2. There are 100.000 flower bulbs used; tulips, grape hyacinths (muscari) and crocuses.
Besides flowers there’s some amazing art work and expositions. Each year the Keukenhof invites a number of artist to expose their sculptures among the flowers, which creates some amazing views in the park. They also do “Flower Shows”, where over 500 growers show off their most beautiful price-winning flowers. It’s also possible to do “whisper boat trips”, guided tours, or cycle in the area. The guided tour is free and starts at the Juliana Pavilion every day at 1400.
The Keukenhof is also especially suited to visit with children. They get a day playing around outside in the fresh air. They have a playground, petting farm and scavenger hunt for treasures hidden all over the park.
When Can I Go?
The Keukenhof gardens are opened daily from March 24th till May 16th | 08:00 – 19:30
What About Tickets?
The price of a regular adult ticket is a reasonable €16,-
Children (4 – 11 years) tickets are €8,-
Groups (from 20 persons) are €13,50 each
There are also combi tickets available that have the bus fares included. These are €29,- when traveling from Amsterdam, and only €24,- when taking the bus from Schiphol Airport, Leiden or Haarlem.
