Total Rewards is a casino loyalty program and its function is to persuade customers to be loyal to (spend more money on) Caesars Entertainment Corporation. You get value from your Total Rewards account but always keep in mind that the niceties offered are to entice you to happily—lose money!
Tier Status
When you earn the required number of Tier Credits within a calendar year, you get bumped up to the next Tier Status. Each status gives you an increasing level of benefits. You keep the status for the remainder of the year you earned it in, for the following year and until January 31 of the next year.
You start with a Gold Card when you first sign up for Total Rewards or when you let your status expire. When you earn 5000 Tier Credits you get a Platinum Card. This gives you a small increase in benefits from the Gold Card. Some of the perks for Platinum vary at different property locations. (For example, sometimes there are Platinum designated lines and sometimes not.) When you earn three times the amount of points needed for Platinum (15000 TC) you get your Diamond Card. A really nice perk of Diamond is access to the Diamond Lounges at all Total Rewards properties in the country. You also don’t have to pay resort fees, you receive free parking, special Diamond lines etc. Here’s a full list of Tier Benefits.
When you earn 10x the amount of Tier Credits needed for Diamond Status (150000 TC), you qualify, for Seven Stars status. Even if you earn the points, you still need an exclusive invitation to obtain that status. That’s an awful lot of play and it doesn’t seem fair that you would also need a special invite, especially considering (in my opinion) that the increase in benefits are not worth 10x the play requirements of Diamond.
There are also two Aspiration Levels of Diamond when you earn 40000 and then 80000 Tier Credits.
Daily Tier Credit Bonuses
You are awarded a special Daily Tier Credit Bonus when you reach one of the following four daily milestones:
- 500 TC +125 Tier Credit Bonus = 625 TC Total
- 1000 TC + 1000 Tier Credit Bonus = 2000 TC Total
- 2500 TC + 5000 Tier Credit Bonus = 7500 TC Total
- 5000 TC + 10000 Tier Credit Bonus = 15000 TC Total
These are pretty much mandatory daily earnings targets if you want to earn elite status. As you can see, the bonus increases with more play in one day. Not only will you crawl to a status level if you don’t consistently hit one of these Tier Credit bonuses in a day, but you would be making a lot of trips to the casino, but will be playing only small amounts each time and this goes against the Golden Rule for casino play.
Golden Rule For Casino Play
PLAY BIG or NOT AT ALL
The first time that you play at a property, plan on bringing as large of a bankroll as you can afford and make the biggest bets, for the longest amount of time possible.
You will never receive as many enticements to come back to the casino as you do the first time you play there. So, even if you can’t afford that much again, go for it that first time. Playing a larger amount than normal spikes your theo (theoretical loss to the casino, which they base comps on) and sets you up for generous marketing offers (more about that in future articles.) It also gets you to the next status level faster, if you should decide to go for that. No matter if the variance (how lucky or unlucky you are, and how much coin in you are able to generate) goes in your favor or not, you should always take advantage of the opportunity to raise your theo with big initial play. Even if you don’t have enough money to go for status or to play frequently, wait to play at a new property until you have saved some money and hopefully Total Rewards will be offering a good promotion! It is much harder to raise your theo once the Total Rewards system has data on your habits. Of course, I hope that you will hit jackpots and then parlay them into higher and higher benefits, but Caesars Entertainment Corporation has the advantage, so you need to live large while the getting is good!
Don’t rush back to the casino until you see what offers you receive.
After you establish yourself, then you can work out the optimum number of trips that will net the most fun, perks and playtime for your budget. But—trip frequency is a Catch-22. You must strike a balance between Status Level, Marketing Offers and Casino Fun. This is difficult to do because the perks you receive when you earn a status level are perks that make your casino visit better (access to free food and/or drink in the Diamond lounges, special lines so you don’t have to wait as long, guaranteed reservations or VIP check in) but each time you visit the casino, you are expected to keep your play to a certain level, or else your marketing offers will decrease. Marketing offers will include things such as comped rooms, free play or free bets or free food, which you also need to get more value for your gambling dollar. You probably started visiting casinos because it’s fun and the perks offered might tempt you to play above your means to earn these FREE benefits, but they aren’t really free.
Now, I’m not trying to be a killjoy with all these suggestions. I have learned these lessons during more than 10 years of casino play and I wish I had known the optimum play strategy when I first began this hobby. It may seem complicated at first, but expending some thought on an overall casino strategy will enable you to stretch your bankroll and possibly earn some rewards that you wouldn’t receive otherwise.
I will delve further into Reward Credit Earning, Play Strategy and Marketing Offers for Total Rewards in the next installment.
