Las Vegas Bargain Hotels
I’m on the NFL media mailing list and receive way too many emails about the league. I prefer too many emails to too few from some companies. The NFL is one where I’d rather see more than less.
The league recently sent an email about media credentials for the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. The “Big Game” will take place at Allegiant Stadium on Feb. 11, 2024.
I made a joke about the media accommodations that too many people took way too seriously.
Thoughts and prayers to out-of-state media coming to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl.

"The NFL has secured a media block of hotel rooms at the Luxor Hotel & Casino, located next door to the Media Center at Mandalay Bay."
Those who visit Las Vegas frequently are familiar with where Luxor ranks among the casino hotels in town. While there’s some truth in the X Tweet, it’s not a fair comparison when it comes to this topic.
Sports Media Hotels
The Super Bowl is the biggest sports event of the year. It’s the most watched TV show annually and media of all sizes from around the world cover the event.
Sports media members don’t often stay in the nicest hotels when they hit the road to cover a team—especially those in smaller markets or media outlets.
The hotels are often generic, inexpensive chain hotels near the airport or venue where the game is taking place. Saying the roadside hotels aren’t always the nicest accommodations is an understatement.
Luxor will be palatial for some of the media members in Las Vegas for the Super Bowl.
Priorities To Work The Event
In addition to being comparatively nice, Luxor is within walking distance of Mandalay Bay where the media events will take place. This is more important for some people in Las Vegas to work the event.
Some of the larger media outlets will undoubtedly have nicer accommodations. However, the proximity to the place of work for the week will outweigh where many of the media members sleep.
This got me thinking about leisure travelers.
Underrated Las Vegas Hotels
Luxor isn’t the best hotel in the country but it’s far from the worst. I’ve stayed at many awful hotels but nothing was worse than the now-closed Ascot Motel in Atlantic City.
The Ascot was so dirty that nobody I was with removed their shoes to crash atop the mattress for a few minutes. Nobody used the shower either. There was also blood on one of the walls. It was a scene, man. We were young and Atlantic City casinos were too expensive on the weekends.
Anyway…I’m just sharing the Ascot information because it’s fun to look back at some bad decisions.
Las Vegas is full of perfectly acceptable affordable accommodations.
Now that I’m older I prefer to stay in casino hotels closer to the luxury end of the market. That said, if there’s a reason to stay elsewhere I have a handful of inexpensive preferences.
On My Mind – Las Vegas Bargain Hotels
Off the top of my head, the following hotels are on my mind when I’m considering a cheap place to crash.
- The D
- Fremont
- Gold Coast
- Harrah’s Las Vegas
- The Linq
- Palace Station
- Plaza
- Sahara
These are perfectly acceptable inexpensive hotels to me. I’m sure there are more.
