I’ve lost count of how many times I have gone to Las Vegas. It has to be more than 100 times. And yet, this last trip still had many firsts for me. It’s what makes the city great. Always renewing itself…just for me.
So, let me tell you the tale of my latest adventure…through the lens of my firsts.
First things first (get it? See what I did there?)… I went with someone I am dating. That’s a first. Traveling is a major relationship test. He passed. Don’t worry. For the sake of storytelling, we shall call him Tony.
DAY 1 – Vegas Firsts
We arrived on Thursday, February 1 right around 3 pm. We had not eaten all day but checked into our Cosmo Terrace Studio first to chill. I’m sure I have never stayed in room 5586 so we will call it a first.
WAIT. I missed two firsts. I got a limo from the airport. While not a first in and of itself, I paid for a one hour charter this time. I used to get the Share-a-Ride from Bell Trans but the one hour charter is now the SAME price for two people as it is for the Share-a-Ride. The difference? It’s $60 for an hour of service versus service direct to the hotel from the airport. SO, here’s our other first…we went pot shopping. Our driver knew where to take us and was happy to let us shop while he talked to his wife. Really nice guy. So, when I say pot, I mean Mary Jane, cannabis, herb, weed…MARIJUANA. I highly recommend The Grove. It doesn’t feel seedy. It’s brightly lit and has a fancy setup with a waiting room containing a bright electronic menu screen and a helpful guy named Shade. …oh, Tony’s telling me that Shade was a fellow (but frequent) customer and not an employee. Well, SIGN HIM UP! I did not imbibe but I enjoyed shopping.

ANYWHO…back to Cosmo. We were hungry and Tony wanted Dim Sum. So, we went to Yong Kang Street at Paris. I had a $30 dining credit through a double booked res at Harrah’s and about $35 in reward credits. That should cover dinner. NOPE. We had a bill of $85. We were hungry and the shiu mai was ON POINT. FYI, the Total Rewards desk told us RCs could not be used here. I asked anyway at the restaurant. We could. LIARS! The lot of you! LIARRRRSSSS! I’m fine.
Walked back to Cosmo and I noticed a Tickets on Demand booth next to the Bellagio South Entrance. Hey that’s new. And nope, across the street we still have Tix4Tonite. COMPETITION! YAY! That’s good for us kids. Looks super tacky next to the Bellagio but whatevs.
We then gambled and played The Voice slot at Cosmo. Yay new slot! That’s a first. We hit the Ricky Martin progressive. He gets WAYYYYY too excited about a hundy. WAY. FYI, the chairs don’t spin. They look like the judges’ chairs but with no spin; it’s a fail.
Also played The Goonies. SUPER FUN. Bonuses and special features happen fairly often. Video clips and references are funny. I approve! Also, I had never played that so FIRST.

After a bit of gambling, I was up six hundred bucks. NEAT. So our friends John and Andy landed earlier and just had dinner and are heading over for drinks. DRINKS ON ME! To the Chandelier! WHEEEEEEE!!!! I had a drink called Becky with the Good Hair. (first!) How could I pass that up?? It was okay. A bit too sour.
The boys needed to go to bed and Tony wanted to go up and enjoy the balcony view. He likes being high…get it…double entendre. N’ermind.
I drank a bit more too and somewhere in there we decided to go to The Henry and have food. Tony had a sensible 2am breakfast. I chose tater tot nachos. FIRST. Exactly what it sounds like except there’s also brisket in there. I did not win that battle. It was a bad choice. Unfortunately, bad choices in Vegas…not a first. That is all I have to say.
