We haven’t missed a Vegas News post since TravelZork first launched the weekly Vegas News feature. To keep the streak going, this will be a shorter version than usual due to some kind of parasite that seems to be fighting to get out of my body.
This is going to be a different look at the news from Las Vegas. We’re going to focus mainly on earnings from MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment before diving into a few quick hits. The earnings reports didn’t have much top-line news but they both touched on leisure travelers similarly, and that was interesting. (And, also a look at New Vegas….)
This week Caesars Entertainment hired Goldman Sachs to help them deal with activist investors. In the same article, the NY Post says that MGM Resorts International might be interested in buying Caesars Entertainment “if it can do so in a friendly deal.” + all the Las Vegas scoop!
This week there was some news about a potential shakeup with the national casino operator from a typically reliable resource + all the Las Vegas scoop!
Boyd Gaming has been doing great business in Las Vegas over the past couple of years. The locals casinos and downtown casinos have been attracting locals and tourists alike. Their earnings call and report for the second quarter was further proof of that.
The best of Las Vegas is different for everyone. My best of Las Vegas can be different depending on the time of day. Some casino experiences are best when the sun is out while others are more fun at night.
More than a few people I know are noticing the increased number of promotions for Caesars that we mentioned last week. I saw comps almost across the board in my Total Rewards app and decided to book a night at Planet Hollywood. I had to shoot some video of the new Block 16 Food Hall at the Cosmopolitan so I figured I’d get a room and work in my room instead of driving back home. Lazy? Sure. Fun? You bet!
Caesars news dominates in and around Las Vegas this week. Last week they released an investors presentation and this week they held a meeting with investors at the 2018 Gaming & Lodging Conference.
