Gambling At The Cromwell
The Cromwell Hotel and Casino opened in 2014 using the bones of Bill’s Gambling Hall and Saloon (it was Barbary Coast before that). The new boutique hotel and casino was, and still is, seen by some as a nightclub that happens to have a hotel and casino. Drai’s Beach Club & Nightclub might be the biggest attraction to the property but the excellent hotel rooms, great service and good gambling make The Cromwell a destination that should be an option for all kind of visitors to Las Vegas.
When The Cromwell opened it appeared as thought the gambling would be slightly above average for a casino on the Vegas Strip. The rules and odds weren’t bad but they weren’t great. There were a couple of 3:2 blackjack tables (the majority of blackjack games paid 6:5), 3x-4x-5x odds craps (like most casinos in the area) and almost unplayable video poker (again, like most casinos in the area).
The clean environment and unique decor make this on of the cozy 40,000 square foot casino floor make The Cromwell one of the more comfortable places to gamble on the Vegas Strip. Recent improvements to its craps odds and video poker pay tables have made gambling at The Cromwell one of the best affordable gambling options on the Vegas Strip.
Video Poker
Late last year The Cromwell changed the odds on a bank of machines into some of the best 25 cent video poker on the Vegas Strip. There are now 6 very playable 25 cent video poker machines near the entrance to the casino on the corner of Flamingo and the Vegas Strip. Each machine has games that return that are above 99%. You can see specifics on each game at vpFREE2.
You shouldn’t gamble specifically for comps but it’s nice to know what’s available and use that information to see if the games are worth your time and money. The downside of these games is that it takes $50 to earn 1 Total Rewards point instead of $10 per point on normal/bad video poker games. This is only 6 video poker machines with limited comps but it’s something for the video poker players.
This is only 6 video poker machines with limited comps but it’s something for the video poker players. Something is better than nothing.
Craps Odds
More recently The Cromwell increased their odds in craps from 3-4-5x to 100x maximum odds (here’s a pic of the placard). Along with 100x odds at Casino Royale, this is the best odds you’ll find for craps in Las Vegas. Minimum wagers at these craps tables are between $5 and $15 depending on the time and day.
You probably won’t find many players playing maximum odds but The Cromwell says you can get down as much as $5,000. Casino Royale rarely, if ever, has players looking for that kind of action. The environment and excellent dice dealers at The Cromwell make this one of the best craps games on the Vegas Strip.
Blackjack And More
There are still a couple 3:2 blackjack tables at The Cromwell but the majority of the low rolling games pay 6:5 when you’re dealt a natural blackjack. If you’re looking for 3:2 blackjack games under $25, just look for the most crowded table(s).
The other games at The Cromwell are typical for Caesars Entertainment and the Vegas Strip but there are a couple more reasons that the gambling is good at The Cromwell. There are some excellent adult beverage options at The Cromwell when you gamble and are less of a stickler for the best odds.
Adult Beverage While You Gamble
The casino side of Interlude bar has a hidden stash of bottled craft beer that they will comp while playing video poker. The bartenders are very friendly and also offer a nice array of cocktails. If you’re a carnival game player (3 Card Poker, Mississippi Stud Poker) you can get top shelf spirits and craft beer comped. I’ve had more than my share of Macallan (with 4 cubes) while my bankroll bounced up and down playing these games.
The Cromwell Hotel and Casino may appear to be a nightclub that just happens to have a casino but it’s become more than that. Since opening The Cromwell has improved odds in some of their games and continues to offer great comp cocktail service. I enjoy a younger vibe when I gamble on the Vegas Strip and the environment, gaming and beverage options all make The Cromwell one of my favorite places to gamble.
